Call for Abstracts – INQUA27 Session 21 invitation

“Human–environment interactions and socio-ecological trajectories during the Quaternary from the Mediterranean basin to Central Asia”

We are pleased to share that our proposed session has been accepted for the INQUA27 Congress, to be held in Lucknow, India in January 28 – February 3 2027.

We cordially invite you to submit an abstract to our Session 21: Sediments, Humans, and Heritage | Human–environment interactions and socio-ecological trajectories during the Quaternary from the
Mediterranean basin to Central Asia.

Session abstract below:

Session abstract:  This session explores human–environment dynamics during the Quaternary across a geographic belt that includes several key regions for human evolution and early societal transformations: the Mediterranean basin, Southwest Asia, and Central Asia. This vast area encompasses diverse climatic zones—ranging from temperate to arid and hyper-arid environments—geomorphological settings—including marine/lake basins, deserts, and high-elevation ranges—and ecological regions—from
Mediterranean scrublands to steppes.

These regions witnessed varied human evolution and socioeconomic dynamics, from dispersal to Neolithization and early states. We invite contributions using multi-scalar and multi-proxy geoarchaeological approaches—micromorphology, sedimentary analysis, pedology, geochemistry, remote sensing, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction—to investigate human–environment feedback, land-use strategies, settlement and socio-political organization, anthropogenic imprints, refugia, and environmental shifts linked to domestication, food production, and resilience.

Our goal is to bring together researchers applying geoarchaeological
tools to better understand long-term socio-ecological trajectories from
the Mediterranean to Central Asia.

We very much hope you will consider contributing and joining us at INQUA27.

The deadline for abstract submission has been postponed to February 15th, 2026.
