INASIA_ERC is the first-ever high-mountain archaeological project in Uzbekistan, supported by the European Research Council (ERC) under Horizon Europe.
Our research team will venture into previously unexplored caves in the remote regions of the Tien Shan and Pamir-Alay mountains—areas that have remained untouched by scientific study until now.
🔬 Why is this important? These caves may hold exceptionally well-preserved traces of ancient human life, offering valuable insights into how people lived, moved, and adapted to extreme environments thousands of years ago.
Using cutting-edge multiproxy analysis—a method that combines data from archaeology, geology, climate science, and biology—we aim to build a comprehensive picture of human history in Central Asia, one of the least studied regions on the global archaeological map.
🌐 This pioneering work not only advances our understanding of human evolution and resilience but also highlights the importance of protecting fragile mountain environments and cultural heritage.
Stay tuned as we uncover the stories buried in stone—stories that connect us all.
