ERC Post-doc FIELD

This is a half-time position for a post-doctoral researcher (R2) to be employed at the University of Warsaw for 48 months starting on 1st March 2026.
Approx. annual salary: 95 454 PLN gross (including an annual bonus and seniority allowance) and a social benefits package.

Key responsibilities:

participation in the preparation for and conducting fieldwork in Uzbekistan within the INASIA project;
conducting survey in mountainous areas and excavations in high-mountain caves;
coordinating the process of exploration, flotation/sieving
of sediments and sorting of materials;
keeping and digitizing field documentation;
managing the system of measurement and its digitization during fieldwork;
managing the documentation od findings and its inventory;
analysing spatial data obtained during fieldwork;
creating data visualisations, predictive models and advanced data analyses based on results of analyses of different types of findings;
assisting in the visualisation of analysis results of the acquired data;
preparing publications and presenting results;
collaborating with other team members.

Eligibility criteria:

compliance with the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, consolidated text);
a Master’s degree in archaeology;
a PhD in the discipline of Archaeology or a related field;
experience in excavation work at Stone Age sites, including cave sites;
experience in conducting surface studies at Stone Age sites;
ability to keep field documentation and digitize it (databases, archiving, digital systems);
proficiency in using geodesic equipment, experience in operating measurement systems (GPS, total station, photogrammetry) and in their digital processing;
experience in spatial data analysis (GIS, cartographic systems, spatial analyses);
ability to create visualizations of research data (maps, 3D models, graphic presentations);
experience in conducting advanced data analyses in archaeology;
experience in documenting different types of artefacts, including stone artefacts;
ability to combine and interpret results of analyses of various categories of findings to produce comprehensive research studies;
experience in teamwork within research projects as well as the ability to independently coordinate research tasks;
experience working in international projects within interdisciplinary research teams;
willingness to participate in high-mountain fieldwork expeditions in Uzbekistan;
advanced written and spoken English;
documented publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
