ERC Post-doc ECO

This is a half-time position for a post-doctoral researcher (R2) to be employed at the University of Warsaw for 48 months starting on 1st March 2026.
Approx. annual salary: 95 454 PLN gross (including an annual bonus and seniority allowance) and a social benefits package.

Key responsibilities:

  • performing selected geochemical or biochemical analyses of sediment samples or artefacts;
  • creating reference databases for the conducted analyses;
  • coordinating other specialized laboratory analyses carried out within the project (including coordination of the selection of analytical methods and analysed materials.);
  • coordinating laboratory work (including the process of sample collection and transportation.);
  • assisting in the organization of a laboratory for interdisciplinary archaeological analyses in Tashkent;
  • preparing publications and presenting results;
  • collaborating with other team members.

Eligibility criteria:

  • compliance with the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, consolidated text);
  • a Master’s degree in archaeology, biology or geology;
  • a PhD in the discipline of Archaeology, Biological Sciences, Earth and Related Environmental sciences;
  • experience in performing and interpreting selected geochemical or biochemical analyses of Pleistocene sediments from cave sites;
  • experience in archaeological excavations at Pleistocene cave sites.
  • experience in collecting sediment samples for OSL dating and paleogenetic, lipid, palynological, sedimentological and geochemical analyses;
  • experience in building reference databases for biochemical or geochemical analyses;
  • experience in coordinating laboratory work;
  • experience in coordinating specialised analyses, including selecting research methods and materials for analysis.
  • knowledge of methods used in archaeometry and environmental archaeology;
  • experience working in international projects within interdisciplinary research teams;
  • ability to process and interpret analytical results in an archaeological context.
  • advanced written and spoken English;
  • documented publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
