ERC Post-doc ARCHEO

This is a half-time position for a post-doctoral researcher (R2) to be employed at the University of Warsaw for 48 months starting on 1st March 2026.
Approx. annual salary: 95 454 PLN gross (including an annual bonus and seniority allowance) and a social benefits package.

Key responsibilities:

participation in excavation and surface surveys at high-mountain cave sites;
drawing and photographic documentation of stone artefacts;
conducting morphometric and technological analyses of stone artefacts from the studied sites;
conducting refittings from the studied sites;
performing morpho-technological analyses on artefacts from selected other Palaeolithic sites in the region;
comparative analyses of stone artefacts;
preparing publications and presenting results;
collaborating with other team members.

Eligibility criteria:

compliance with the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, consolidated text);
a Master’s degree in archaeology;
a PhD in the discipline of archaeology;
experience in surface or excavation research at Middle Palaeolithic sites;
experience in morphometric and technological analyses of large assemblages of Middle Palaeolithic stone artefacts;
experience in drawing and photographic documentation of stone artefacts;
experience in interpreting morpho-technological analysis results and placing them in paleoenvironmental and cultural contexts;
ability to work with large archaeological datasets, including conducting their organisation and comparison;
experience in working within international projects and interdisciplinary research teams;
willingness to participate in high-mountain fieldwork expeditions in Uzbekistan;
advanced written and spoken English;
documented publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
