Sipantash – Uzbek hertiage site

One day we visited Sipantash. One of very few painted rock art sites in Uzbekistan. Hand stencils, lots of geometric signs, single animal silhouettes, solar symbols – altogether up to 800 paintings preserved under an absolutely amazing stone structures.

The rock below the paintings is a natural slide polished by thousands of years of usage. Untill recently, this place has been percaived as sacred with magical fertility properties. It’s said people used to sacrifice animals on the top deck with blood dripping down the stone. Pregnant women would slide down on that blood as a ritual promising successfully labour.
What a place!
